Medtronic Launches  Device to Treat Parkinson

Mumbai: Medtronic has introduced a new device in India aimed at treating patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease. The device, known as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), is designed to help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects movement and can make routine activities difficult. DBS uses small electrical signals delivered through electrodes implanted in specific areas of the brain. These signals help regulate abnormal brain activity that causes symptoms such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty in movement.

The system is adjustable, meaning doctors can fine-tune the stimulation levels based on each patient’s needs. This helps improve movement-related symptoms like walking, writing, and balance. The therapy is powered by Medtronic’s Brain Sense technology, which provides real-time insights into brain activity. This allows doctors to optimize treatment more effectively. India has around 10 million people globally affected by Parkinson’s, and access to advanced treatments like DBS can significantly improve quality of life. Patients considering DBS must undergo evaluation by neurologists and neurosurgeons to determine suitability for the procedure.
